gear.ign.com/articles/829/829592p1.htmlI got one of these for my Wii in the mail today. I decided to get one cuz I don't want to take any chances with overheating damage. You can actually feel the hot air coming out, as opposed to the fan that the Wii has. Yesterday when me and inf were playing vanguard, it was glitching and it never did that before, so I think that might have been from overheating. Overall, I thought it was a good idea to get one because it's supposed to prolong to life of your console.

I should probably get myself one of these. I've always been worried about the Wii overheating due to the fact that it never really shuts off. Hopefully you can buy 'em in stores...

Actually, I was just doing some reading and I heard that these things can do more bad than good. Earlier on they released one for the 360 (because they overheat like a bitch, or, at least more than the other two) and it caused the 360 to overheat more and end up destroying itself. Since the Wii doesn't really heat up too much... I'm wondering if it's even worth it. I mean, the thing is always on... but is it worth the risk of ruining it? I'm stuck here.

I don't see how it could make it overheat more. I didn't see anything about that in the review, so I'm not worried about it.

I looked at the review for the Xbox 360 one and it didn't say anything about making it overheat. Here's a chart they made to show the heat difference.

I did some research about it and apparently the older model causes problems. It had something to do with the fan taking too much power, so the 360 didn't have enough power. The new kind doesn't have the same problem, which explains the good rating from ign. That's what I've concluded atleast. You might want to find out yourself though.

Yeah, it could be an old model. The one I was reading about took power from the 360 itself, and the machine didn't like that. So it's probably been taken into consideration for the newer models. Hopefully.

if you have the Wii set up properly, it will not overheat
i played Prime for 18 hours almost streight, and i didnt' turn it off during breaks, and it wasn't any warmer b4 i started.
lol, have you seen that knockoff Wii holder thing that doesn't provide a spot for vented air to escape? It covers up the vent, and it's still in stores! i feel sorry for people who don't know better
