The point of this thread is to make sure everyone knows the meaning of most words you'll hear while playing an online game. Not knowing what these mean could result in an embarassing situation that could have been avoided. Let's begin. n.= noun v.= verb
n00b:
n.
1) A person who is new to a game
2) A person who, regardless of experience, lacks the skill or copmetence to be competitive in a certain game
3) Someone who tends to whine or complain when being beaten at a game - often done by accusing more skilled opponents of hacking
4) One who may talk trash, claiming to be elite at a game, only to be beaten down by a better player, or will turn down any games when challenged by better players.
v.
1) To act or behave in the way that a n00b would
2) Behaving as if lacking experience, skill or knowledge
NOTE: Can be used with a number of connotations. Often is used mockingly or in a manner of jesting. Other times is used seriously, but is often considered a brainless or weak insult when used alone as a supposed malicious insult. Is generally considered rude and deragatory unless a person is displaying disregard and general apathy towards other players - in this case, skill may be a non-factor (see definitions 3 and 4).

n. This n00b just charges in at the enemies and gets owned in the first 10 seconds of the game.
v. Look at this guy n00bing it up - I've never seen anyone die so fast, so often.
Own:
To beat an opponent while displaying a high degree of skill and style. Headshot. Owned.
Example:
K.A.L. pistol kills Badger, who was sniping him.
K.A.L. "Lol, owned."
Pwn:
To completely and utterly defeat, either verbally, mentally, or physically, an opponent beyond the mental realm of loss. (Same as own, but mispelled with a "p". It was started by a guy who made a typo in a Warcraft game way back in the day.)
"Dude, I totally pwned you at tennis yesterday."
1337:
Hacker "Sp33k" for leet, or elite. Originating from 31337 "eleet", the UDP port used by Dead Cow Cult, a hacker group, to access Windows 95 using Back Orifice, a notorious hacking program. It's lost it's true meaning over the years and is now used to describe an exceptionally skilled player. Or used by n00bs who think they are.
"1337 h4x0rz pwn j00!" (Leet/Elite hackers own you!)
